The St. Lucie County Fire District firefighters will participate in MDA’s national Fill the Boot campaign by collecting money at various intersections throughout the county. The boot drive will be held June 22-23, June 29-30 and July 6-7.
Last year, the firefighters collected over $56,000 during their boot drive for “Jerry’s kids.” They hope to raise $60,000 through this upcoming boot drive.
All proceeds from the St. Lucie County boot drive will aid local children and adults affected by neuromuscular diseases, providing wheelchairs, leg braces, clinic visits, support groups, flu shots and a weeklong summer camp for ages 6 to 21.
MDA has been partnering with firefighters in different communities since 1954, raising awareness and money for those affected by these diseases.
MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat 43 neuromuscular diseases through worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far reaching professional and public education. The Association’s programs are funded entirely by private contributions.
