5/28/08 at 11:30 p.m. — SLCFD responded to a vehicle accident at 29th and Orange Avenue, Ft. Pierce. Ground transported a woman in her 20s to a local hospital with minor injuries. Before the accident, SLCSO had been in pursuit of the car causing the crash.
KBDI is 489.

5/25/08 at 4 p.m. — SLCFD responded to a motorcycle accident on Okeechobee Rd, west of the Fair Grounds. A motorcyclist hit a construction barricade and was thrown from his bike. The motorcyclist, a male (believed to be in his 40s) was ground transported to a local hospital in very critical condition. SLCSO and FHP were also on the scene.
5/26/08 at 1:50 a.m. — SLCFD responded to a home fire at 11 Bernardo Lane, PSL. A male resident escaped the fire. The mobile home was destroyed by fire (50%) and smoke. The fire started in the kitchen with an appliance malfunctioning. SLCSO was also on the scene.

5/23/08 — SLCFD responded to a house fire on the 4800 block of Lakewood Park Drive in Ft. Pierce — near Station # 7 on Ft. Pierce Blvd. The fire was contained to a laundry/utility/garage area attached to the house. The main part of the house did not sustain any fire damage, however the roof over the house did have fire damage. The fire was called in by firefighter/paramedic Dwane Barnes, who had just completed his shift at Station # 7. The call came in at 7:40 a.m. and the fire was officially out at 8:15 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire caused $30,000 worth of damage. The responding units included 3 engines, 1 tanker, 1 rescue truck, a Battalion Chief and a Field Training Officer (Safety Officer).

5/22/08 at 8:30 p.m. — SLCFD responded to a hazardous material incident on Midway Road under I-95. A tractor trailer carrying 55-gallon drums had been stopped by DOT because it was leaking some material. Two law enforcement officials (DOT and FHP) became ill after investigating — skin and eye irritation. Both were ground transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. Midway Road was shutdown for 2+ hours while the investigation took place. The source of the leak was not found and DOT impounded the tractor trailer.
2/23/08 at 7:50 a.m. — SLCFD responded to a structure fire near Station #7 (4900 Ft. Pierce Blvd., Ft. Pierce). The home is located behind the fire station. No one was home at the time. The fire was out by 8:15 a.m. (Will update when I am able to talk to someone on scene.)
KBDI is 531.

5/21/08 at 1:17 a.m. — SLCFD responded to a structure fire on the 2600 block of N. US Hwy 1, Ft. Pierce. The single-wide trailer was 40% involved when the first crews arrived. Approximately 50% of the home was destroyed by fire and the remainder had heavy smoke damage. No one was home at the time. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Estimated damage is $60,000. There was some damage to a neighboring trailer. Responding: 3 engines, 3 rescue trucks, 1 brush truck, 1 tanker, a Field Training Officer (FTO) and a Battalion Chief.

St. Lucie County Fire District hosts Kayakers traveling from Ft. Lauderdale to Virginia Beach for Shriner’s Burn Foundation
St. Lucie County, FL – Four members of the Virginia Beach Fire Department are kayaking from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Virginia Beach, VA, a total of 1100 miles. The kayakers are raising money for the Shriner’s Burn Foundation, with the goal of $20,000. They will arrive in St. Lucie County this evening. (A full press release will be emailed out to the media later this morning.)

5/19/08 at 7:52 p.m. — SLCFD responded to an accident at 1498 SE Lennard Rd. A man, in his 80s, had been hit by a pick-up truck in a parking lot and was trapped under the truck. By the time rescuers arrived, the truck had been jacked-up by bystanders. The man was flown to a southern trauma center in critical condition. PSLPD was also on the scene. (The location is the parking lot of a Cumberland Farms store. The truck had backed-up over the man.)
Drought index 517. Burn ban is in effect.
St. Lucie County officials, in conjunction with the St. Lucie County Fire District and Florida Division of Forestry, have implemented a county-wide burn ban effective immediately.
The burn ban applies to all non-permitted, outside burning and fireworks. Agricultural burning will be permitted on a case-by-case basis as authorized by the State Division of Forestry.
