8/20/08 — Thursday morning SLCFD responded to a chemical leak a 9501 Range Line Road. The leak was a chemical used for pools or cleaning. The company, Universal Chemical, had begun to contain the leak by the time SLCFD arrived on the scene. The leak went into flood water, but because of the amount of flood water is not expected to be a hazard.
Thursday afternoon (around 2 p.m.) SLCFD rescued two girls from flood waters at Selvitz and 10 Mile Creek. Three girls (pre-teens or early teens) had been in a canoe in a backyard when it flipped over. One girl swam to safety with the help of James Pulliam, a neighbor. The other two girls clung to a tree branch until crews arrived. Pulliam swam to them and helped them get safely on the tree until help arrived. FF/Paramedic Wade Tindall swam to the girls with floatation devices. SLCSO, in a air boat, arrived and took all of them to safety. (Will update this story as I get more details.)
