Natural Gas Leak on US Hwy 1

July 30, 2009

7/30/09 at 8:17 a.m. — SLCFD responded to a natural gas leak at 2900 S. US Hwy 1.  (The Bizarre at Coral Square)  A man had been digging behind the business and hit a 2″ natural gas pipe.  Ft. Pierce Utilities  was called in to turn off the pipe.  One business – the Beauty Academy – was temporarily evacuated.  SLCFD cleared the scene by 9 a.m.

7/30/09 a.m. — Nothing to report from last night or this morning. 

7/29/09 at 5 p.m. — A SLCFD Rescue Turck was involved in an accident with a private vehicle at the intersection of 25th Street and Rhode Island Ave.  No injuries.  The Rescue Truck had been responding to a call.  The driver of the private vehicle, a female in her late 70s, declined medical treatment.

Wednesday Morning Update

July 29, 2009

7/29/09 at 2:43 a.m. — SLCFD responded to a motorcycle accident at 6500 Glades Cut Off, Ft. Pierce.  A male, in his mid 50s, was ground transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Tuesday Morning Update

July 28, 2009

7/27/09 at 10:46 p.m. — SLCFD responded to a vehicle accident at the 139 MM of the Turnpike, NB.  Two semi-tractor trailers hit each other.  Both drivers initially denied transport, but later were transported to a local hospital.  The accident caused one semi to spill more than 100 gallons of fuel.   

7/28/09 at 4:19 a.m. — SLCFD responded to a home fire on the 500 block of Douglas Court, Ft. Pierce.  The fire was contained to a bedroom and contents located in the southwest corner of the home.  One adult male was displaced.  No injuries.  Cause of the fire is undetermined.  Cost of damage is estimated at $15,000.

Additional call –

Just after Midnight, SLCFD responded to a vehicle accident at Jenkins and Okeechobee Rd., Ft. Pierce.  Ground transported one male, in his mid-20s, to a local hospital.  Two vehicles were involved.  SLCSO was also on the scene.

Accident on Turnpike – 174 MM

July 27, 2009

UPDATE — The male, in his mid 40s, was flown to a local trauma center in serious but stable condition.  The man had been hit by the iron fork falling off of a forklift.  He was part of a work crew from a private company working on a bridge over a canal near the Turnpike.  It did NOT involve Turnpike construction.    (posted 10:23 a.m.)

7/27/09 at 8:46 a.m. — SLCFD responded to an accident near the 174 MM of the Turnpike NB.  Call came in that a forklift had fallen onto a male victim.  Trauma alert issued at 9:19.  Life Star has been launched.  Will update as more information becomes available.

 St. Lucie County Fire District Employees Attain Certification

Maya, Trabulsy, and Crooks now Certified Public Pension Trustees

St. Lucie County, FL – Three St. Lucie County employees recently attained certification as Public Pension Trustees.  April Maya, Carl Trabulsy, and Ken Crooks were awarded their certification at a recent statewide meeting of Florida Public Pension Trustees Association. 

The certification requires a total of nine 8-hour days and testing.  Participants go through basic, intermediate and advance classes in the rules, laws and standards which guide pension funds and participants.     

The St. Lucie Fire District has a Firefighters Pension Board and a General Employee Pension Board, with each board having five members.  For the Fire District this means a total eight out of 10 board members are certified.
