St. Lucie County Fire District Advance Life Support Competition Team comes in Third in National Competition
St. Lucie County, FL – The St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD) Advance Life Support Competition Team placed third in a national competition over the weekend. The team includes: Rob Schooley, captain, Eric Wright, Elisa Prevatt, and Rob Newman.
The competition took place at the Fire-Rescue East Conference, held in Jacksonville, Florida. A total of 16 teams participated in two-rounds of competition. In the first scenario, teams were confronted with a post-hurricane situation with multiple patients. The scenario was conducted in total darkness to simulate a power loss. In the second scenario, the teams dealt with four patients at a construction site. The SLCFD tied for second in the first round of competition and was one of only three teams to advance and qualify to compete in the second scenario.
“This is a newly created team and to place this well is a tribute to their hard work and commitment to their profession,” explained Fire Chief Ron Parrish. “The team did a great job. We are very proud of their accomplishment, and I know they are looking forward to advancing in next year’s competition.”
This is only the third time the team has competed. They participated in their first competition in Boca Raton in June, 2007. That competition attracted local fire-rescue departments. They competed in their first national competition at the Clinical Conference of Prehospital Emergency Care (ClinCon) last summer, placing 17 among 43 competitors.
“We’ve exceeded our expectations,” said Wright. “The team is excited and humbled by the experience.”
They plan to enter another national competition this coming July taking place in conjunction with the ClinCon Conference in Orlando.
